KATL

KATL is the ICAO airport code for Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, located southwest of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It is owned by the City of Atlanta and operated by the Atlanta Department of Aviation. The facility serves as a major hub for Delta Air Lines and functions as a principal international gateway for the southeastern United States. It is consistently among the busiest airports in the world by passenger traffic and aircraft operations.

The airport opened in 1925 as Candler Field. It was renamed Atlanta Municipal Airport in 1930 and later became Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 1971, in honor of former mayors William Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson. The site has undergone several modernization programs, including terminal expansions, runway improvements, and the introduction of the Plane Train people mover.

The airport comprises two passenger terminals, North and South, with several concourses connected by the Plane Train and linked walkways. Delta operates a large share of the facility’s traffic, though a broad mix of domestic and international carriers also use the airport. In addition to passenger services, KATL handles air cargo and maintenance operations. Ground transportation includes a MARTA rail link, shuttle services, rental cars, and access via major highways.
