Kühlteil

Kühlteil refers to the refrigerated compartment of a refrigerator or freezer. It is the section designed to store food items at low temperatures to slow down spoilage and preserve freshness. These compartments typically maintain temperatures above freezing, usually between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius (32 to 39 degrees Fahrenheit), making them suitable for dairy products, meats, fruits, vegetables, and leftovers.

The Kühlteil is distinct from the Gefrierteil, which is the freezer compartment. While both use refrigeration, the Kühlteil operates at a higher temperature range than the Gefrierteil, which aims for temperatures below freezing to freeze food solid for long-term storage. Many modern refrigerators feature separate compartments or drawers within the Kühlteil that offer different humidity levels or temperature zones to optimize storage for specific types of food. For example, a crisper drawer is designed to maintain high humidity for vegetables, while a deli drawer might be set at a slightly cooler temperature for meats and cheeses. The cooling mechanism within the Kühlteil circulates cold air, often managed by a thermostat, to ensure a consistent temperature throughout the compartment.
