Käytettävyysala refers to the field of usability in Finnish. Usability, in turn, is a quality attribute that assesses how easy user interfaces are to use. This encompasses aspects like understandability, navigability, and error prevention.

Key elements of usability include learnability, which is how easily new users can accomplish basic tasks the first time they encounter the design; efficiency, which is how quickly experienced users can perform tasks; memorability, which refers to how easily users can re-establish proficiency after a period of not using the design; errors, which covers the number and severity of errors users make, as well as how easily they can recover from them; and satisfaction, which is the subjective measure of how pleasant the design is to use.

Professionals in the käytettävyysala, often called usability specialists or UX designers, employ various methods to evaluate and improve usability. These can include user testing, heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthroughs, and user surveys. The ultimate aim is to reduce user frustration, increase productivity, and enhance overall user satisfaction, leading to greater adoption and success of the product or service.
