Käsienkuivaimia, commonly known as hand dryers, are electrical devices used to dry hands after washing them. They are typically found in public restrooms in places such as shopping malls, airports, and restaurants. The primary function of a hand dryer is to remove moisture from the hands using a stream of heated air or by rapidly spinning the hands.

There are two main types of hand dryers: jet air dryers and warm air dryers. Jet air dryers, also known as high-speed hand dryers, use a powerful, high-velocity jet of unheated air to blow water off the hands. This method is generally faster than traditional warm air dryers. Warm air dryers, on the other hand, expel heated air onto the hands, evaporating the moisture. These tend to take longer to dry hands effectively.

The effectiveness and hygiene of hand dryers have been subjects of debate. Some studies suggest that certain types of hand dryers can disperse bacteria into the air, while others indicate that they are a more hygienic option than paper towels, especially if hands are not washed properly. Modern hand dryers often incorporate features like HEPA filters to improve air quality and antimicrobial coatings to reduce bacterial growth. Their energy consumption and noise levels are also factors considered in their design and selection.
