Jäätmeliigid

Jäätmeliigid refers to the different types of ice cream. In Estonia, ice cream is broadly categorized into several main varieties based on their ingredients and production methods.

The most common type is koorejäätis, or cream ice cream, which is made with a base of cream, milk, sugar, and egg yolks. This rich and creamy variety is often considered the premium option.

Piimajäätis, or milk ice cream, uses a higher proportion of milk to cream, resulting in a lighter texture and flavor. It is generally less rich than koorejäätis.

Vesijäätis, or water ice, is a non-dairy frozen dessert made primarily from water, sugar, and fruit juice or puree. It is known for its refreshing and often intensely fruity taste, and is typically dairy-free and fat-free.

Sorbee, or sorbet, is similar to water ice but may sometimes include a small amount of egg white to give it a slightly smoother consistency.

Additionally, there are various specialized jäätmeliigid such as puuviljajäätis (fruit ice cream), which incorporates significant amounts of fruit, and šokolaadijäätis (chocolate ice cream), which features chocolate as a primary flavoring. Some ice creams also contain inclusions like nuts, chocolate chips, or cookie pieces. The distinction between these types is important for understanding the variety and quality of frozen desserts available.
