Jääkarhuissa

Jääkarhuissa refers to polar bears in Finnish. Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are large marine mammals native to the Arctic. They are the world's largest land carnivores and are well-adapted to life in cold, icy environments. Their thick fur and a layer of blubber provide insulation against the extreme cold. Polar bears have black skin, which helps them absorb heat from the sun. Their paws are large and slightly webbed, aiding in swimming and walking on snow and ice.

The primary diet of polar bears consists of seals, which they hunt by waiting near breathing holes in the ice or by stalking them on the surface. Their sense of smell is highly developed, allowing them to detect seals from a considerable distance. Polar bears are solitary animals, coming together mainly for mating. Females give birth to cubs in dens dug into snowdrifts, typically having one to three cubs at a time. The cubs remain with their mother for about two to three years, learning essential survival skills.

Polar bears are classified as vulnerable due to the significant threat posed by climate change, which is causing a rapid decline in Arctic sea ice. This loss of sea ice directly impacts their ability to hunt seals, their primary food source. Conservation efforts are underway to protect polar bear populations and their habitat.
