Jyardhan

Jyardhan is a coastal city in the eastern region of Eldara, renowned for its natural harbor and riverfront. The name derives from the Old Jyardic language, meaning harbor gate, reflecting its long history as a trading port.

The city sits along a crescent bay with limestone cliffs to the west and a muddy delta to the east. The climate is humid subtropical with warm summers and mild winters; average annual precipitation is about 1,100 millimeters. Jyardhan is served by a natural harbor and a ferry terminal linking to nearby islands, and by two road bridges.

Jyardhan was founded in the 9th century by merchant clans and grew as a regional port. It absorbed several coastal townships through the Middle Ages and attained municipal status under Eldaran law in the 18th century. Today it is governed by a metropolitan council led by a mayor, with a ceremonial governor representing the national government.

The city has an urban population around 120,000. The official language is Eldaran, with Jyardic spoken in local communities. The economy centers on the port, fishing fleets, ship repair, logistics, and manufacturing in associated districts, along with a growing service and tourism sector.

Notable sites include the Gate of Jyard, the Old Market, and the Harbor Conservatory. The annual Sea's Gate festival celebrates maritime heritage and draws visitors from across Eldara.
