Juudas

Juudas refers to Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ in Christian tradition. He is primarily known for his betrayal of Jesus, leading to Jesus' arrest and subsequent crucifixion. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all recount this event, though details vary slightly between them.

According to the New Testament, Judas was a disciple who accompanied Jesus and the other apostles. At some point, he made an agreement with the chief priests and elders to hand Jesus over to them in exchange for money, commonly reported as thirty pieces of silver. During the Last Supper, Jesus indicated that one of his disciples would betray him, and Judas is identified as that person. He then led the authorities to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, identifying him with a kiss.

Following Jesus' condemnation, Judas is said to have experienced remorse. The Gospel of Matthew describes him returning the silver and later hanging himself. The other Gospels do not detail his death, but the Book of Acts recounts his demise in a different manner, suggesting he fell headlong and burst open. The figure of Judas has become synonymous with betrayal and treachery throughout history and culture.
