Jubail

Jubail is a city in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, situated on the Persian Gulf coast. It is administered by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY), which governs two adjacent zones: Jubail City, a residential area, and Jubail Industrial City, a large industrial complex. Together they form one of the world’s largest planned industrial regions.

The development of Jubail began in the 1970s as part of Saudi Arabia’s program to diversify its economy away from oil. The RCJY built Jubail Industrial City to attract petrochemical, chemical, metals and other industries, while also creating housing, utilities and services for workers. A subsequent expansion, commonly referred to as Jubail II, added further industrial capacity and infrastructure. The traditional fishing town of Jubail evolved alongside the industrial zone into a modern urban center.

Economy and infrastructure are dominated by energy and chemical production. Major facilities and plants operate in Jubail Industrial City with links to national and international markets. The industrial port, Jubail Port, provides maritime access for bulk and container cargo. The RCJY oversees planning and services, including housing, schools and health facilities for residents and the workforce.

Geography and climate: Jubail lies on the Gulf coast in a hot desert climate, characterized by very hot summers and mild winters with low annual rainfall.

Transport: The city is connected by road to other parts of the Eastern Province and Saudi Arabia. The nearest major air gateway is King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
