Jordfejlstrømsbeskyttelse, often abbreviated as RCD (Residual Current Device) or in Danish, jordfejlstrømsafbryder, is a safety device designed to protect against electric shock. It functions by monitoring the electrical current flowing through a circuit. In a normal circuit, the current flowing out on the live wire should be equal to the current returning on the neutral wire. If there is a fault, such as a person touching a live wire and an earthed object, some current will flow to the earth instead of returning through the neutral wire.
