Joonagrad

Joonagrad is a mid-sized city and the administrative center of the Joon District in Eldoria. It is located in the northern part of the country, on the bend of the River Lysa, about 120 kilometers from the coast and near the Zephyr Hills. The city experiences a temperate climate with four distinct seasons.

The name Joonagrad derives from the given name Joona and the suffix -grad, a common element in local toponymy indicating a city. Founded in the 14th century as a trading post along river routes, it grew through medieval commerce and later expanded with the arrival of the railway in the 19th century.

The modern economy is diversified, with services, logistics, light manufacturing, and education prominent. The city hosts a campus of Eldoria University and several research institutes, contributing to regional innovation and employment.

As of 2023, Joonagrad has an estimated population of about 145,000. The population is predominantly Eldorian-speaking, with minorities including Tersian speakers. The city preserves a historic core with a mix of medieval streets and 19th-century urban blocks and hosts cultural events such as the Festival of Light.

The municipal government operates under a city council. Joonagrad is served by regional rail lines, a network of highways, and a nearby regional airport. Landmarks include Joonagrad Cathedral, the Old Town Gate, and the Riverfront Promenade, along with the university library.
