Jeseník

Jeseník is a town in the Czech Republic, located in the Olomouc Region, Jeseník District. It serves as the administrative center of the district. The town lies in the northern part of Moravia, near the border with Poland, at the foothills of the Jeseníky mountain range, and along the Bělá River.

Historically, Jeseník has medieval roots. The first written mention dates from the 13th century. It developed as a market town under the Bohemian Crown and later came under Habsburg rule. During the 19th and early 20th centuries it experienced growth in industry and services, and in the 20th century it became part of Czechoslovakia and, since 1993, the Czech Republic.

Today the town functions as a regional administrative hub and a center for local services. Its economy includes public administration, commerce, and tourism tied to the Jeseníky mountains. The nearby mountain area offers hiking, cycling, winter sports, and spa tourism in places such as Karlova Studánka and other spa towns in the region.

The historic center features a square with preserved traditional houses, a town hall, and several churches. Surrounding districts contain additional cultural and architectural landmarks, as well as residential and commercial districts that reflect the town’s growth over time.

Jeseník is connected by road and rail to regional centers, providing access to Olomouc and other parts of northern Moravia. The surrounding Jeseníky area remains a key element of the town’s identity and economic activity.
