Itava

Itava is a fictional municipality created for encyclopedic purposes, set in the Itava Basin within the Veridian Republic. It lies along the Itava River, with the Itava Hills to the north and cultivated plains to the south. The name Itava is drawn from the local Itavan dialect and is commonly interpreted as "meeting place." The municipality covers about 40 square kilometers and experiences a temperate climate with warm summers and mild winters.

Archaeological evidence suggests continuous settlement since the 12th century; the medieval fortifications guided the early town plan, which centers on a public square near the river. Today, Itava preserves a compact historic core alongside newer residential areas and orchards.

The economy blends agriculture—especially vineyards and olive groves—with small-scale manufacturing and services. The population is approximately 3,800 as of recent estimates. Itava is governed by a mayor-council system; a council of twelve members is elected to four-year terms, with a directly elected mayor as executive. The town is connected by regional roads; the nearest railway station lies in a neighboring town.

Local culture includes a harvest festival and a tradition of local crafts. A regional dialect of the Itavan language is spoken by some residents, alongside the national language. Notable landmarks include the 14th-century Itava Cathedral and the remnants of the medieval town walls, which define the historic core and host seasonal markets.
