Iskuvoimat

Iskuvoimat (singular: iskuvoima) is a Finnish term that translates to "impact forces" in English. It refers to the forces generated during a rapid contact, such as a strike, collision, or crash. In Finnish usage the term is used in both scientific and athletic contexts, often described in terms of peak impact force, impulse, and contact duration.

In science and engineering, iskuvoimat are analyzed to evaluate how structures or materials withstand impacts, and to model safety in crashes or equipment testing. The peak force indicates the maximum load during contact, while impulse reflects the total momentum transferred and the duration of the interaction. Measurements are collected with force sensors, load cells, piezoelectric transducers, and accelerometers; data are used in experimental tests and in computational models.

In sports and fitness, iskuvoima may refer to punching power or striking power, the combined effect of technique, body mechanics, and muscular strength. Athletes train to increase iskuvoimat by improving force generation, technique, speed, and coordination, while protective equipment and rules aim to manage exposure to high impact forces to reduce injury risk.
