Iranianborn

Iranian-born is an adjective used to describe a person who was born in Iran. It is commonly used in biographical writing, census data, immigration research, and other formal contexts to indicate place of birth without implying current nationality or ethnicity. The term may be hyphenated as Iranian-born or written as two words, depending on the style guide.

Because Iran is home to diverse ethnic groups, being Iranian-born does not by itself specify a person’s ethnicity. Ethnic identities commonly associated with Iran include Persian, Azerbaijani, Kurdish, Luri, Baloch, Arab, and Turkmen, among others. Individuals born in Iran may belong to any of these groups, and generations born abroad may retain ties to Iranian language and culture.

Migration and diaspora: Since the 20th century, many Iranian-born people have emigrated to other countries, forming Iranian diasporas in the United States, Canada, Europe, and parts of the Middle East and Oceania. Iranian-born communities have contributed to science, arts, business, and public life, while often maintaining connections to Iranian language, media, and traditions.

In official and research contexts, Iranian-born is distinct from nationality or ethnicity: it specifies birthplace rather than citizenship, and it does not denote an identity on its own.
