It was created to encode cultural and historical diversity among the Ionisoivans and has since been expanded by both the original author and the fan community. In its fictional context, Ionisoivan is spoken by multiple communities across a coastal archipelago and in diaspora settlements.

Phonology and script: Ionisoivan has a moderate consonant inventory and five vowel qualities; syllable structure is typically CV or CVC; stress tends to fall on the penultimate syllable.
