Iodamines

Iodamines are a class of chemical compounds containing a nitrogen-iodine bond. The general formula for these compounds can be represented as R-NI2, where R is an organic group or a hydrogen atom. The simplest iodamine is NI3, which is nitrogen triiodide. Nitrogen triiodide is an extremely unstable explosive compound that detonates upon contact with friction, heat, or even a slight touch. It is formed by reacting ammonia with iodine.

Other iodamines can be synthesized through various chemical reactions, often involving the reaction of amines with iodine-containing reagents. For example, primary amines can react with iodine in the presence of a base to form N-iodoamines.
