Investeerimisühik

Investeerimisühik, often translated as investment unit, is a term used in Estonia to describe a share or unit in a collective investment scheme, such as a mutual fund or investment fund. These units represent a fraction of the ownership of the underlying assets held by the fund. When an investor purchases investeerimisühikud, they are essentially pooling their money with other investors, and a fund manager invests this collective capital into a diversified portfolio of securities like stocks, bonds, or other assets.

The value of an investeerimisühik fluctuates based on the performance of the fund's investments. The price at which units are bought and sold is known as the Net Asset Value (NAV) per unit, which is calculated regularly, usually daily, by dividing the total value of the fund's assets minus its liabilities by the number of outstanding units. Investors benefit from diversification, professional management, and often lower transaction costs compared to buying individual securities. However, they also bear the investment risk associated with the fund's performance, and there are typically management fees and other expenses associated with investing in such funds.
