Unlike traditional systems that cycle the compressor on and off to maintain a set temperature, inverter technology allows the compressor to run continuously at variable speeds. This means the compressor can adjust its output based on the actual cooling or heating demand, rather than simply switching between full power and off.

The core component enabling this technology is the inverter drive, which converts the incoming alternating current (AC) power to direct current (DC) and then back to AC, but at a variable frequency. This variable frequency allows the motor in the compressor to spin at different speeds. When the system is first turned on, the inverter accelerates the compressor to quickly reach the desired temperature. Once the target temperature is achieved, the inverter slows the compressor down to a much lower speed, maintaining the temperature with minimal energy consumption.

This variable speed operation offers several advantages. Energy efficiency is a primary benefit, as the system avoids the significant energy spikes associated with frequent compressor starts and stops. This can lead to substantial cost savings on electricity bills.
