Invariantsus

Invariantsus is a term occasionally used in mathematical discourse to denote a generic invariant associated with a class of objects under a specified group of transformations. It is not a standard, widely standardized object, but rather a placeholder or descriptive label that appears in expository or theoretical contexts to discuss invariants in a broad sense.

Definition: Let X be a set or object equipped with an action of a group G, so that each g in G sends X to another object g·X. An invariantsus is a function I that assigns to X a value in some target set V such that I(g·X) = I(X) for all g in G. Equivalently, I is constant on the G-orbits and thus descends to the orbit space X/G. In this framing, invariantsus behaves like a conventional invariant but is meant to emphasize the generality of the construct across different categories or transformation groups.

Construction and properties: An invariantsus can be defined through any mechanism that yields a class function on X, such as a canonical form, a trace, a counting argument, or a construction that depends only on the orbit of X. It is by design insensitive to the chosen representative of an equivalence class and is typically used to compare objects up to the specified transformations. As a general concept, invariantsus encompasses traditional invariants while allowing broader or alternative target structures.

Examples: In planar geometry under rigid motions, invariantsus-like quantities include area and vertex count. In topology under homeomorphisms, quantities like the Euler characteristic function as invariantsus-like values. In linear algebra under similarity, determinant or trace can be viewed as invariantsus-like, depending on the chosen framework.
