Intervertebralisok

Intervertebralisok is a Hungarian term referring to intervertebral discs. These are fibrocartilaginous cushions that separate the vertebrae of the spinal column. Each intervertebral disc consists of two main parts: the annulus fibrosus, a tough outer ring of collagen fibers, and the nucleus pulposus, a gel-like inner core. The primary function of intervertebral discs is to act as shock absorbers, cushioning the impact of movements like walking, running, and jumping, and to allow for flexibility and movement between the vertebrae.

The discs also play a crucial role in maintaining the space between vertebrae, which is important for the proper functioning of nerves exiting the spinal cord. Over time, the intervertebral discs can degenerate due to aging, repetitive stress, or injury. This degeneration can lead to various spinal conditions, such as herniated discs, where the nucleus pulposus protrudes through the annulus fibrosus, potentially pressing on nearby nerves and causing pain, numbness, or weakness.
