Interscope

Interscope Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group. It operates as a major imprint within UMG and has released music across hip hop, pop, rock, and electronic genres. The label has been influential in developing and promoting both breakthrough and established artists, often in collaboration with affiliated imprints such as Aftermath Entertainment and the broader Interscope Geffen A&M umbrella.

Founded in 1990 by Jimmy Iovine and Ted Field, Interscope started as a joint venture with Atlantic Records for distribution. It gained prominence in the 1990s by signing and releasing music from hip hop and rock acts and served as the US distributor for Death Row Records, helping bring West Coast rap to a national audience. In 1999, Interscope merged with Geffen and A&M Records to form Interscope Geffen A&M under Universal Music Group.

Under UMG, Interscope expanded its influence with the success of artists such as Eminem, Dr. Dre, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and many others, often through its affiliated labels. The label has maintained a prominent position in the global music industry, supporting a diverse roster and adapting to changes in digital distribution and streaming.
