Intermetallisk refers to a class of solid phases that are formed between two or more metallic elements. These compounds, also known as intermetallic compounds or phases, exhibit distinct chemical and physical properties that are different from those of their constituent elements. They typically possess a fixed stoichiometry, meaning the ratio of the constituent metals is specific and often non-integer. The bonding within intermetallics can range from primarily metallic to having significant covalent or ionic character, depending on the electronegativity difference between the metallic elements.

The crystal structures of intermetallics are often complex and ordered, deviating from the simple crystal lattices of pure metals.
