Interdentalis

Interdentalis is a term of Latin origin meaning “between teeth.” In English-language anatomy and dentistry, interdentalis is not a standard or widely used label in contemporary practice. When it appears, it typically signals structures or regions located between adjacent teeth, and modern texts usually prefer more specific terms such as interdental, interdental papilla, interdental space, or interdental col.

In dental anatomy, the interdental papilla refers to the gingival tissue that occupies the interproximal space between two neighboring teeth, contributing to the contour of the gingiva and helping to seal the area around the teeth. The interdental col is the crescent-shaped depression beneath the contact point, where the facial and lingual interdental papillae meet. The interdental space is the gap between adjacent teeth, which can vary in size and is the site for interdental cleaning devices like interdental brushes or floss, depending on the presence of contact and diastemata.

Because interdentalis is not a standardized term, its usage may be encountered in historical texts, translations, or as a Latinized label in anatomical diagrams.
