Instrumentenkanülen

Instrumentenkanülen, often referred to as instrument cannulas or precisely cannulas for instruments, are specialized medical devices used in minimally invasive surgical procedures. They are essentially narrow, hollow tubes, typically made of stainless steel or other biocompatible materials, designed to facilitate the passage of surgical instruments, fluids, or air into the body through small incisions. These cannulas are crucial for maintaining a clear and stable surgical field while minimizing tissue trauma.

The primary function of an instrumentenkanüle is to create and maintain a port of entry for surgical instruments. They are inserted through small skin incisions, allowing surgeons to introduce instruments like graspers, scissors, cameras, and electrosurgical tools into the body cavity. The cannula's lumen provides a controlled pathway, protecting the surrounding tissues from damage as instruments are manipulated. Different sizes and lengths of cannulas are available to accommodate various surgical needs and anatomical locations.

Beyond instrument passage, instrumentenkanülen can also be employed for other purposes during surgery. Some are designed for insufflation, delivering gas (commonly carbon dioxide) to create pneumoperitoneum, which expands the abdominal cavity and improves visualization. Others may be used for irrigation and suction, allowing for the removal of fluids and debris from the surgical site. The precise design of an instrumentenkanüle is tailored to its specific application, often featuring features like obturators for initial insertion and seals to prevent gas leakage. Their use is a cornerstone of laparoscopic, endoscopic, and other minimally invasive surgical techniques.
