Instituimos

Instituimos is a form of the Spanish verb instituir, meaning to establish, found, or institute. It is the first person plural form of the present indicative, and it can also be the first person plural form of the pretérito perfecto simple (simple past) of the same verb. The time reference depends on the context or accompanying temporal markers such as hoy or ayer.

Etymology and morphology: The verb comes from Latin instituere, meaning to set up or establish. In modern Spanish, institur is an -uir verb with irregularities in certain present tense forms. In the present tense, yo instituyo and tú instituyes are irregular, él instituyó is a common form in the preterite, and nosotros instituimos in both the present and the preterite can cause ambiguity without clear time cues. The vosotros form is instituís and the ellos form is instituyen.

Usage: The form se usa para describir la creación o implementación de normas, instituciones o procedimientos. Ejemplos: “Nosotros instituimos una nueva normativa.” “La organización instituyó un programa de becas.” The term can be substituted with related verbs such as fundar, establecer, crear o implementar, depending on nuance. In reflexive or institutional contexts, related forms such as instituirse (to establish oneself) may also appear.
