Typical models encompass hybrid teams supported by vendors, captive centers combined with external contractors, dual-sourcing agreements, and on-demand staffing arrangements.

The rationale for this approach is to preserve core capabilities in-house while outsourcing non-core tasks to access specialized skills, scale operations quickly, and spread risk. Benefits can include greater flexibility, potential cost savings, access to global talent, and faster time to market. However, challenges exist around governance complexity, security and IP concerns, cultural and process alignment, data governance, and the overhead of coordinating multiple providers.

Implementation considerations involve defining a sourcing strategy, mapping the value chain, conducting risk and cost-benefit analyses, and designing governance with clear SLAs and KPIs. Successful adoption relies on robust knowledge transfer, change management, and ongoing performance reviews to ensure alignment between in-house teams and external partners.
