Innenfeinbearbeitung refers to finishing operations performed on the internal surfaces of a workpiece. These processes aim to achieve specific geometric and surface quality requirements that cannot be met by initial machining operations. Common goals include improving dimensional accuracy, achieving a desired surface finish (low roughness), and creating specific geometries like precise cylindrical shapes or complex internal profiles.

Several techniques fall under the umbrella of Innenfeinbearbeitung. Honing is a widely used abrasive machining process that employs rotating and reciprocating abrasive stones to remove small amounts of material. This process is particularly effective for achieving very low surface roughness and precise diameter control on bores. Lapping is another abrasive finishing method that uses a loose abrasive compound between the workpiece and a lap, ideal for achieving extremely flat and smooth surfaces. Broaching, while often considered a primary machining process, can also be used for finishing, especially for internal splines or keyways, to achieve tight tolerances and good surface finish. Boring can also be considered a finishing operation when very precise dimensions are required, often using specialized boring bars with fine adjustment capabilities. The selection of the appropriate Innenfeinbearbeitung method depends on factors such as the material being worked, the required tolerances, the desired surface finish, and the overall geometry of the internal feature.
