Infusioonikotte

Infusioonikotte, commonly known as infusion bags or IV bags, are sterile, flexible containers used in healthcare settings to administer intravenous fluids, medications, or nutritional solutions directly into a patient's bloodstream. These bags are typically made from flexible plastic materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or non-PVC alternatives such as polypropylene or polyethylene, chosen for their inertness, transparency, and ability to withstand sterilization processes.

The primary function of an infusioonikott is to hold a sterile solution that will be delivered to a patient through an intravenous line. This line connects the bag to a needle or catheter inserted into a vein. The flow rate of the fluid is controlled either by gravity, by adjusting a roller clamp on the IV tubing, or by using an electronic infusion pump for precise administration.

Infusioonikotte come in various sizes, ranging from small volumes for single-dose medications to large capacities for fluid resuscitation or continuous infusions. They are designed with one or more ports for connecting the IV tubing and for safely accessing the contents. The manufacturing process ensures that the bags and their contents are sterile, preventing the introduction of microorganisms into the patient's body. Different types of solutions are commonly packaged in these bags, including saline, dextrose solutions, electrolyte replacements, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and parenteral nutrition. The use of disposable infusion bags significantly reduces the risk of cross-contamination and simplifies the administration process in clinical practice.
