Infrapunlämmitys

Infrapunälämmitys, also known as infrared heating, is a method of transferring heat through infrared radiation. This is distinct from convection heating, which heats the air, or conduction heating, which transfers heat through direct contact. Infrared radiation is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and when it strikes an object, its energy is absorbed and converted into heat.

The primary advantage of infrared heating is its ability to directly warm objects and people in its path without needing to heat the surrounding air first. This can lead to more efficient energy use, as the heat is felt almost immediately and the air temperature can remain lower while still providing a comfortable feeling of warmth. This makes it particularly useful in applications where heating the air is less efficient, such as in large, open spaces or areas with drafts.

Infrapunälämmitys systems can be powered by electricity or gas. Electric infrared heaters often use heating elements made of materials like nichrome or quartz to generate the radiation. Gas-fired infrared heaters typically burn natural gas or propane to produce radiant heat. Common applications include industrial settings like warehouses and factories for spot heating, outdoor patio heaters, and even some residential heating solutions. The wavelengths of infrared radiation used in heating typically fall within the far-infrared range, which is considered safe and beneficial for humans, often described as a gentle, penetrating warmth.
