Informovat

Informovat is a Czech verb meaning to inform or to notify someone about something. It is a transitive verb used with a direct object in the accusative and with the preposition o to indicate the topic, or with a clause introduced by že to report information. The tone is neutral and it is suitable for formal and official contexts as well as everyday communication.

Etymology and systematics: The verb informovat is a loanword formed with the common Czech suffix -ovat from a root related to information. The root inform- is linked to Latin informare (to form, shape, teach) and has cognates in other European languages. The related noun informace (information) shares the same origin.

Grammar and usage: In present tense the standard conjugation is: já informuji, ty informuješ, on informuje, my informujeme, vy informujete, oni informují. Past tense is formed with the auxiliary být plus the past participle: informoval/a/o (masc/fem/neut). Future forms use the auxiliary (budu, budeš, bude, ...) plus informovat. Typical constructions include informovat koho o čem (to inform someone about something) and informovat, že (to inform that...). The verb is generally neutral and can be used in official announcements, press releases, company communications, and everyday messages.
