Infiltrasjonsfelt, often translated as infiltration area or soakaway, is a system designed to manage surface water runoff. It typically consists of a pit or trench filled with granular material, such as gravel or crushed stone. The primary purpose of an infiltration field is to allow collected rainwater or wastewater to slowly seep into the surrounding soil. This process helps to reduce the volume of water entering storm drains or sewage systems, mitigating the risk of flooding and overloading treatment plants.

The design of an infiltration field considers factors like soil type, percolation rate, and the expected volume of water. Different types of infiltration fields exist, including French drains, infiltration trenches, and infiltration basins, each suited for specific site conditions and applications.
