Indonesian American refers to a United States resident or citizen who is of Indonesian origin, including individuals born in Indonesia who later naturalized or obtained permanent residence, as well as their descendants. The term encompasses people from Indonesia's diverse ethnic and linguistic groups, including Javanese, Sundanese, Balinese, and others.

Indonesian Americans are concentrated in major metropolitan areas. Communities have formed in California (notably Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area), the New York metropolitan area, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, Washington state, and the Pacific Northwest, among others.

The presence of Indonesians in the United States increased after the mid-20th century, with growth accelerating after the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. Many arrived as students, professionals, and family members, and second- and third-generation Indonesian Americans have grown up within American society while maintaining ties to Indonesian language and culture.

Cultural life within the community includes language programs, cultural associations, and events marking Indonesian holidays and festivals. Indonesian cuisine, music, dance, and religious diversity reflect Indonesia's national diversity, with Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and other faiths represented among Indonesian Americans.

Notable aspects of the community include organizations, educational and charitable activities, and ongoing cultural exchange between the United States and Indonesia that support mutual understanding and economic ties.
