Indikujetoj, commonly known as *indigo dye*, is a natural dye derived from plants in the *Indigofera* genus, most notably *Indigofera tinctoria*. Historically, it has been one of the world’s most widely used dyes, prized for its vibrant blue color. The dye is produced through a fermentation process where the plant’s leaves are crushed and exposed to air, allowing the indoxyl compounds to oxidize into indigo, a blue pigment insoluble in water. This pigment is then reduced back into a soluble form for application on fabrics.

Indigo has played a significant economic and cultural role across civilizations, including ancient Egypt, India, and China, where it was used in textiles and as a symbol of status.
