ImpactStudien is a field of research and evaluation focused on measuring the effects of policies, programs, or interventions. In German-speaking and international contexts, the term encompasses studies that seek to determine what changed as a result of a given action, including intended benefits as well as unintended or negative consequences.

Impact studies employ a range of methodological approaches, from rigorous experimental designs such as randomized controlled trials to quasi-experimental methods like difference-in-differences and regression discontinuity, as well as well-designed observational studies. They often combine quantitative and qualitative data. Economic evaluation methods, including cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses, are used to assess value for money.
