Immúnglobúlínskipt, also known as immunoglobulin replacement therapy or IVIg (intravenous immunoglobulin), is a medical treatment that involves administering a solution of antibodies (immunoglobulins) to individuals with weakened or deficient immune systems. These antibodies, collected from the plasma of healthy human donors, are crucial for fighting off infections.

The primary purpose of immúnglobúlínskipt is to supplement or replace a patient's own antibodies when their body cannot produce enough to adequately protect them from pathogens. This therapy is particularly beneficial for individuals diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency disorders, a group of genetic conditions that impair the immune system's ability to function properly. Examples include X-linked agammaglobulinemia and common variable immunodeficiency.

Beyond primary immunodeficiencies, immúnglobúlínskipt is also employed in the treatment of various autoimmune diseases and certain neurological conditions. In these cases, the immunoglobulins are thought to modulate the immune response, reducing the body's attack on its own tissues. Conditions such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, multifocal motor neuropathy, and certain types of vasculitis can be managed with this therapy.

The administration is typically done intravenously, hence the common term IVIg. The process involves slowly infusing the immunoglobulin solution into a patient's vein over a period of several hours. The frequency and dosage of the treatment are tailored to the individual patient's needs and the specific condition being treated. While generally safe, potential side effects can occur, ranging from mild flu-like symptoms to more serious reactions, necessitating careful monitoring by healthcare professionals.
