Immotels

Immotels are a hypothetical concept, often explored in science fiction and philosophical discussions, referring to beings or entities that are immortal in the sense of being ageless or deathless, but not necessarily invincible. Unlike traditional zombies or vampires, immotels do not require sustenance in the same way, nor are they inherently tied to undeath. Their immortality stems from an inability to die from natural causes, disease, or the passage of time. However, they may still be vulnerable to physical destruction.

The concept of immotels allows for exploration of various themes. If an individual cannot die, their perception of life, time, and mortality would fundamentally change. This could lead to profound ennui, a detachment from ephemeral concerns, or an accumulation of vast knowledge and experience. Alternatively, it could drive them to seek out new experiences or even manufactured forms of peril to feel alive. The ethical and societal implications of such beings are also a common area of interest.

The term "immotel" itself is a portmanteau, combining "immortal" with "hotel," possibly alluding to a state of permanent, unchanging existence, or perhaps a place where such beings might reside. While the term is not widely established in formal scientific or mythological discourse, it serves as a useful shorthand for a specific type of unending existence within imaginative narratives. The core idea remains the absence of natural death, leaving open the possibility of an end through external forces.
