Ilmastokäyrän
Ilmastokäyrä, often translated as "climate curve" or "climate proxy," refers to a graphical representation of past climate conditions. These curves are not direct measurements of temperature or precipitation but are derived from indirect evidence, known as proxy data. Various natural archives hold clues about historical climates. Ice cores, for example, contain trapped air bubbles that reveal atmospheric composition and isotopic ratios that correlate with temperature at the time of ice formation. Tree rings can provide information about precipitation and temperature variations throughout the tree's lifespan, with wider rings generally indicating favorable growth conditions. Sediment cores from ocean floors and lakes preserve pollen, microfossils, and chemical signatures that can be analyzed to reconstruct past environmental conditions.
The creation of an ilmastokäyrä involves careful collection and analysis of these proxy records. Scientists calibrate
