Cloud seeding is one of the most common methods of weather modification. It can be used to increase precipitation in areas experiencing drought, or to reduce the size of hailstones. The substances used for cloud seeding typically include silver iodide, dry ice, or liquid propane. These substances are chosen because they have crystal structures similar to those of ice.

Weather modification is also used to suppress fog and reduce the accumulation of ice on aircraft. This is often done by seeding clouds with particles that promote the formation of larger droplets, which then fall as rain.

Despite its potential benefits, weather modification is a controversial topic. Some argue that it is an unethical form of geoengineering, while others believe it is a necessary tool for managing natural disasters and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
