Iisalmis

Iisalmi is a town and municipality in Northern Savonia, Finland. It is located in the eastern part of the country, approximately 100 kilometers north of Kuopio. The municipality covers an area of 864.13 square kilometers, of which 134.81 square kilometers is water. As of the end of 2023, Iisalmi had a population of around 20,000 residents.

The town's history dates back to the 16th century, but it was officially founded as a market town in 1896. Iisalmi has a rich industrial heritage, with the production of agricultural machinery and timber being significant in its past. Today, the municipality's economy is diversified, with strengths in areas such as food processing, metalworking, and services. A notable aspect of Iisalmi's identity is its connection to music, particularly its reputation as the "home of Olvi," Finland's oldest brewery, and its association with the annual "Iisalmesta Iisalmelle" music festival.

Geographically, Iisalmi is situated on the shores of Lake Porovesi. The landscape is characterized by forests and lakes, typical of the Finnish lake district.
