Ihonväri

Ihonväri refers to the color of human skin. It is determined primarily by the amount and type of melanin, a pigment produced by specialized cells called melanocytes. Melanin's role is to protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.

The range of human skin colors is a spectrum, from very pale to very dark. This variation is largely a result of human evolution and adaptation to different geographical locations and levels of UV exposure. In regions with high UV radiation, populations tend to have darker skin, which offers greater protection. Conversely, in areas with lower UV radiation, lighter skin evolved, which allows for more efficient vitamin D synthesis.

Genetics play a significant role in determining an individual's skin color, with multiple genes influencing melanin production. While melanin is the primary determinant, other factors like blood circulation and the presence of carotene can also contribute to subtle variations in skin tone. Skin color is a complex trait and a natural aspect of human diversity.
