IgAdefektit

IgAdefektit refers to a group of primary immunodeficiency disorders characterized by low levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in the blood and/or secretions. Selective IgA deficiency is the most common form, where only IgA is deficient, while other immunoglobulin levels remain normal. This condition is often asymptomatic, but some individuals may experience recurrent infections, particularly of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. Allergic conditions and autoimmune disorders are also more frequently observed in those with IgA deficiency.

The exact cause of IgAdefektit is not fully understood, but genetic factors are believed to play a significant role. It is inherited in an autosomal recessive or autosomal dominant pattern, or it can be sporadic. The diagnosis is typically made through blood tests that measure immunoglobulin levels. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing infections. This may include prompt antibiotic treatment for bacterial infections and in some cases, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) therapy, although IVIg is not typically given for selective IgA deficiency as it does not contain significant amounts of IgA. Individuals with IgAdefektit should maintain good hygiene practices and may benefit from vaccinations to prevent common infections. Regular medical follow-up is recommended to monitor for complications.
