Idstymo is a proposed open standard and protocol for decentralized digital identity verification, designed to enable privacy-preserving authentication and attestations across online services. It defines a workflow in which individuals hold verifiable credentials issued by trusted authorities and present minimal proofs to relying parties.

Origin and purpose: The term idstymo originated in academic and industry collaborations focusing on interoperable identity ecosystems. The protocol is maintained by the idstymo Foundation, a community-led body that publishes specifications and reference implementations.

Technical overview: The architecture centers on three roles—issuer, holder, and verifier. Credentials are issued as verifiable credentials (VCs) tied to decentralised identifiers (DIDs).
