Idapoolis

Idapoolis is a small municipality located in the northern part of the province of Saevi, within the country of Valkor. The settlement lies in a valley surrounded by the modest mountain range of Kaldara, and is situated approximately 12 kilometers northeast of the regional capital, Korvain. The name “Idapoolis” is derived from the ancient Valkorian term meaning “bridge over the Idas River,” reflecting the village’s historical role as a crossing point in the region.

The population of Idapoolis, according to the most recent census conducted in 2022, totals 1,512 residents. The demographic composition is predominantly ethnic Valkorian, with small communities of the neighboring Orenni and Galian minorities. The main economic activities are agriculture—particularly rye and barley cultivation—and artisanal craftwork, notably the traditional weaving of the Idapoolis carpet.

Idapoolis gained prominence in the early 18th century during the Valkorian War when its strategically positioned bridge was the site of a minor but pivotal skirmish between local defenders and invading forces. The event is commemorated annually by a festival known as the Bridge Day, which attracts visitors from surrounding provinces.

Architecturally, the village features a mixture of 19th-century wooden structures and a recently restored 1620s church, St. Nicholas of Idapoolis, which houses a collection of religious icons preserved from the pre-revolutionary era. The church remains an active place of worship and is also a popular tourist attraction because of its historical significance.
