IRAK4
IRAK4 (interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 4) is a cytoplasmic serine/threonine kinase that belongs to the IRAK family. It plays a central role in signaling from Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the IL-1 receptor, translating extracellular detection of microbes into inflammatory gene expression.
Biochemical function: In resting cells, MyD88 recruits IRAK4 to the receptor-associated complex via its death domain.
Clinical significance: Mutations in IRAK4 cause IRAK4 deficiency, a primary immunodeficiency characterized by recurrent, serious bacterial
Therapeutic targeting and research: Inhibitors of IRAK4 have been explored as potential therapies for inflammatory diseases
