IPTV streaming refers to the delivery of television content over IP networks using streaming technology. It encompasses live television, time-shifted and on-demand video, and is typically distributed over managed networks that provide quality of service and reliability beyond public internet.

In a typical IPTV streaming system, content originates at studios or content libraries and is ingested by encoders. The signal is transported via a headend or media server, then distributed through a service provider's network and content delivery infrastructure to customer premises. End users access the service on set-top boxes, smart TVs, or mobile and desktop apps.

Common service types include live IPTV, Video on Demand (VOD), time-shifted TV, and catch-up TV. An Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and basic navigation enable program selection and recording features in many implementations.

Technical aspects include the use of streaming protocols such as HLS, MPEG-DASH, RTSP, and sometimes RTMP. Content is encoded in codecs like H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 and packaged in transport streams or fragmented MP4 containers. Digital rights management (DRM) and encryption protect content, and access control enforces regional licensing.

IPTV streaming is typically contrasted with OTT streaming delivered over the public internet; IPTV relies on managed networks and often supports service-level agreements, monitoring, and interactive features like start-over, pause, and multi-screen experiences. Challenges include licensing, piracy, network complexity, and regulatory considerations.
