IP68 is a rating in the IP (Ingress Protection) code defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The code consists of two digits. The first digit, 6, indicates that the device is dust-tight, providing full protection against solid objects. The second digit, 8, indicates protection against immersion in water beyond 1 meter. The exact immersion depth and duration are not standardized by the IP code itself and are specified by the manufacturer for each device. In practice, products with IP68 ratings are often tested to withstand immersion in water deeper than 1 meter for an extended period, with common specifications ranging from about 1.5 to 3 meters for 30 minutes to 1 hour, though there is no universal depth or time.
