IISERs

The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, commonly known as IISERs, are a group of autonomous public research universities in India. Established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, these institutions are dedicated to providing high-quality science education and fostering cutting-edge research. The primary objective behind establishing IISERs was to integrate undergraduate and postgraduate science education with research. This unique approach aims to nurture scientific talent and produce future generations of scientists and researchers who are well-equipped for both academic and industrial pursuits.

Currently, there are seven IISERs located in different parts of India: IISER Bhopal, IISER Berhampur, IISER Kolkata, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, and IISER Tirupati. Each IISER offers integrated undergraduate programs, such as the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BS-MS) dual degree program, which provides a comprehensive foundation in core scientific disciplines. They also offer postgraduate programs leading to Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, alongside postdoctoral opportunities. The curriculum emphasizes a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experimental work, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. IISERs are known for their robust research infrastructure, world-class faculty, and a vibrant academic environment that supports interdisciplinary research and innovation. Admission to the BS-MS program is highly competitive, typically through the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) or based on national-level examinations like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY).
