Hypophthalmusor is a genus of freshwater fish belonging to the family Pimelodidae, commonly known as the driftwood catfishes. These fish are native to the Amazon and Orinoco basins in South America. The most notable characteristic of Hypophthalmusor is their large, upward-facing eyes, which are positioned in a way that gives them their genus name, derived from Greek words meaning "under eye."

Species within this genus are typically small to medium-sized, with slender, elongated bodies. They are often found in slow-moving waters, including flooded forests and backwaters, where they feed primarily on small invertebrates and organic matter.
