Hyperlipoproteinemia is a medical condition characterized by elevated levels of lipids, specifically cholesterol and triglycerides, in the blood. These lipids are essential for bodily functions, but persistently high concentrations can lead to serious health problems. The primary concern associated with hyperlipoproteinemia is its role in the development of atherosclerosis, a process where fatty deposits build up in the arteries, narrowing them and restricting blood flow. This significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke, and peripheral artery disease.
